The ASTM A312 standard covers austenitic stainless steel piping, and 904L is one of its high-performance representatives. 904L has excellent corrosion resistance due to its ultra-low carbon content and high nickel and molybdenum ratios, especially against acidic media such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, and chlorine-containing environments. In addition, its copper content further enhances its resistance to reducing acids, making it widely used in the chemical, desalination and pharmaceutical industries.

The ERW (Electric Resistance Welding) process is an important technical method for making ASTM A312 TP904L welded pipes. It works by heating the edges of the pipe billet with electrical resistance and quickly welding the pipe together under high temperature and pressure. This process results in pipes with uniform weld seams, excellent surface quality and high productivity, especially for high-volume industrial applications. Compared to traditional seamless pipes, ERW welded pipes offer higher productivity and more precise control of wall thickness and diameter, making them suitable for scenarios that require high dimensional accuracy.

Typical applications for 904L ERW welded pipes include acid condensers in sulfuric acid production units, process piping in phosphoric acid production lines, corrosion-resistant equipment in the petroleum refining industry, and delivery piping in seawater desalination systems.
