304 stainless steel wire is composed of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It is the most widely used stainless steel spring wire because of its high corrosion resistance and good tensile strength. For spring applications, it is usually offered in cold-drawn conditions. If properly treated after molding, it will solidify less than most other spring materials at temperatures up to 500ºF. Nickel coated stainless steel wire was developed to have excellent lubricating properties to minimize friction during coiling
