302/304 stainless steel wire is the most widely used stainless steel wire due to its high corrosion resistance and good tensile strength.

It is a general-purpose stainless steel alloy, usually consisting of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. For spring applications, it is typically offered in the cold drawn condition. 302/304 springs have good strength at moderate temperatures up to 500°F. 302/304 is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, but the material in the spring condition is slightly magnetic due to some martensitic transformation during the drawing operation. The higher the cold reduction, the higher the degree of magnetism.
