Alloy C22 is suitable for use in a variety of chemical process industries containing oxidizing and reducing media. The high molybdenum and chromium content makes the alloy resistant to chloride ions, and the tungsten element further increases its corrosion resistance. Alloy C22 is one of only a few materials that are resistant to corrosion by moist chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions, and the alloy has significant corrosion resistance to high concentrations of chlorinated salt solutions (e.g. ferric chloride and copper chloride).

Characteristics:

Alloy C-22 is a versatile Ni-Cr-Mo-W alloy that provides better overall corrosion resistance than other Ni-Cr-Mo alloys, including Alloy C-276, Alloy C-4, and Inconel 625. Alloy C-22 has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. It has excellent corrosion resistance to oxidizing aqueous media, including wet chlorine and mixtures of nitric or oxidizing acids containing chloride ions. In addition, it provides optimum corrosion resistance when both reducing and oxidizing conditions are encountered in the process stream. As such, it can be used in locations where "unstable" conditions may occur or in multipurpose plants. Alloy C-22 offers excellent resistance to a wide range of chemical process environments, including strong oxidizing agents (such as ferric and copper trichlorides), chlorine, thermally contaminated solutions (organic and inorganic), formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, and seawater and brine solutions. It prevents the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat affected zone, making it suitable for most chemical processing applications in the welded condition.
